Never ever trust something that they say they’ll do, fgx users from years ago will have flashbacks. It’s annoying to work with slate plugins, to me at least.Īlso I find slate to be the most world class bullshitting, marketing machine type of audio company out there. Want to know what you have on this channel strip at a glance? Too bad, it’s all contained in this rack plug-in that has who knows what inside of it. I could mix with their plugins, but the workflow was the worst move I could have made at the time. The whole idea of their rack interface is unbelievably cumbersome, and is what made me uninstall all the slate stuff that I had purchased in the past. Their emulations are fine, they’re in the same class as every other big boy emulator out there today. If you really think about what your bread and butter plugins are it’s probably just a handful that you could pick up for the price of a year of the subscription and have perpetual licenses of them. I’ve never been that impressed with slate plugins, but they’re fine. You have very little money to lose if you don’t like them, and they continue to add products into the bundle to improve its value. If you are an experienced mixer, then you will be able to use them to their fullest extent and I think at least one of their products from every category (compressed, EQ, etc) will make it into your favorites list.Īll in all I would recommend. If you are new to mixing, I think they will help you improve and learn to use other plugins better as well. They are professional quality, used on real records, but not commanding the high-end price that UA and perhaps fabfilter do (and those companies totally deliver). Some people are going to badmouth Slate, but I would place their products at the same level as waves plugins. I use my DAW plugins the most (studio one) and slate just a little less, since I kept my iLok attached to my desktop computer where I finish my mixes. Occasionally these 3rd party plugins come and go as their contract with Slate expires. It also includes some other fun plugins by other companies, including an eq that is similar to the fabfilter Q3 and a guitar amp sim, if that’s something you would appreciate. It is the only monthly subscription I use besides Spotify and it has helped me improve a lot on mixing and detailed listening.
